Cruises FAQ
If you are arriving by plane, you are responsible for your transfer to the port of embarkation or to the first overnight port. Of course, you can book your transfer from the airport to the ship and vice versa as a separate service with I.D. Riva Tours. Then, you do not have to take care of anything, and we will transfer you from the airport directly to your boat.
The port of embarkation for passengers arriving by plane depends on the flight schedule. Guests, who book their transfer with I.D. Riva Tours, in the case of late arrival of their flight, will be transferred to the first overnight port, to embark there in the late afternoon or evening.
Please note that there are no refunds for any unused services due to late embarkation.
With transfer booking via I.D. Riva Tours and flight arrival to Rijeka airport until 11:30 am, embarkation in the port of Rijeka is guaranteed. With flight arrival to Zadar airport until 12:00 noon, embarkation in the port of Zadar is guaranteed. With flight arrival to Split airport until 1:00 pm, embarkation in the port of Trogir is guaranteed. Passengers arriving later will be transferred to the first port of call for embarkation.
Since most return flights are scheduled around noon or in the afternoon, you may still have the opportunity for a relaxing shopping tour or a visit to the beach. From the port of Rijeka, the transfer to the airport on the island of Krk takes place on Saturday morning, immediately upon disembarkation. If your flight departs in the afternoon or evening, you can choose if you prefer to be transferred directly to the airport or to the town of Malinska. In Malinska, you can enjoy your last vacation day at the beach, while our partner agency is keeping your luggage safe. Without an additional surcharge, you then will be transferred to the airport on time. In some cases, the transfer takes place in the evening, and you will spend the day in Rijeka.
Upon your arrival at the port of embarkation, our representatives will welcome you and will show you where to find your boat. Our luggage porters will help you to bring aboard your luggage.
In the port of Poreč, embarkation takes place from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, in the ports of Rijeka and Zadar, from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm, and in the port of Trogir from 13:00 pm am until 2:00 pm. Guests arriving later, will be informed by our staff where to embark.
If arriving to the port of Poreč by your own car, you can drive to our parking reception already from 09:00 am until 11:00 am latest. Here, you will park your car, and our Service Team will transfer you and your luggage to the port.
If arriving at the ports of Rijeka and Zadar by your own car, you can enter the port already from 09:00 am (Rijeka) respectively 08:00 am (Zadar). Our Service Team will accompany you to the parking garage respectively the parking lot, and transfer you back to the port.
If arriving to the port of Trogir by your own car, you can drive to our parking reception already from 10:00 am until 01:00 pm latest. Here, you will park your car, and our Service Team will transfer your luggage to the port.
If chartering on of our ships, you can decide about the time of embarkation and the start of the cruise by yourself. The time frame is set for embarkation from 11:00 am on the day of arrival in Poreč, 11:30 am in Rijeka and Zadar, and 01:00 pm in Trogir, and for disembarkation until 9:00 am latest on the day of departure.
We offer guarded parking spaces in all ports of embarkation, which must be reserved at the same time as the cruise booking and will be shown on the cruise confirmation/invoice. The parking fee is uniformly € 70 per car and week in all ports and is to be paid with the cruise price.
**Reservation and payment of a parking space on site is no longer possible since 2023.
Parking lots, availability and fees for other kinds of vehicles, like caravans or trailers, are subject to prior request.
The parking lots are guarded, but not insured through the car park operators or us. There might be coverage in case the vehicle is comprehensively insured (basically the same liability rules apply as in parking lots or parking garages in European Union).
Upon arrival, please follow the directions you receive from us with your travel documents and sign up with our representatives at the port. The parking garage in Rijeka and the parking lots in Zadar are located outside the port area – our Service Team will accompany you there and transfer you back to the port.
In Trogir, you will park your car at our parking reception, just a few minutes by foot from the port.
Generally, there is no limit. But you should keep in mind that the space in the cabins is restricted and that there are no storerooms aboard. And as there is no dress code, you can leave formal clothing like evening gowns and tuxedos at home.
Casual holiday wear, such as shorts and T-shirts, as well as swimwear, are more appropriate. For cooler evenings (especially during the off-season), we recommend a sweater or a sweatshirt; also a rain jacket can occasionally be useful.
Since the storage space in the cabins of our wooden ships is not very generous, you should avoid suitcases (especially bulky shell suitcases) and bring a duffel bag or sports sack instead. Our modern steel-hull vessels offer more storage space, so that even larger suitcases can be stored under the beds.
The differences are illustrated in the picture. By the way, cabins on the lower deck are at least partly above the water line. When making your reservation, you may choose between cabins on deck or cabins below deck (subject to availability).
Please note that with booking of a cabin on deck, the cabin could be located either on the main or on the upper deck of the vessel. Preferences regarding a certain deck are not subject to prior confirmation.

The cabins on the lower deck are provided with air ventilation ducts. Additionally, all cabins have got portholes which partly can be opened at calm sea. In the cabins on the main or upper deck, you can usually leave the cabin door a bit open and lock it in this position. Some cabins on the main or upper deck have got an additional porthole.
On almost all ships there are deck chairs and/or sun loungers on the sun deck, on some ships there are lounger mattresses. Please note the exact details in the ship descriptions.
Of course, there is enough shade aboard. Usually, bigger vessels have got a covered part at the stern on the main deck, apart from that, parts of the sundeck are protected by a canvas cover.
Surely not. The guests on our cruises are mainly between 25 and 70 years old, sometimes even older. But please be aware that you should be able to move without other’s assistance, especially regarding narrow alleyways and steep stairs.
A cruise on one of our boats is certainly a unique experience. But please note, that those planks have their drawbacks: stairs are narrower and steeper than you may be used to; after a rain shower or with morning dew, the deck can be slippery, thus creating numerous “pitfalls”.
Since especially in high season many ports might be crowded, often several ships will moor side by side. We therefore ask you to take special care when climbing across other vessels to board or go on land, particularly in relation to the different deck heights of the vessels. This is especially important after the consumption of alcohol, since we are not liable for possible accidents.
Particular caution is also appropriate if you anchor in a bay and take a “bold leap” into the refreshing water. First of all, be careful not to hurt yourself while jumping from the deck; on the other hand, remember the increased danger of slipping, since the deck will be wet due to other guests coming out of the water.
Of course it is. And without any doubt, it is a great experience for children. Because of the special conditions aboard, we recommend our cruises for children at least at school age, and they should definitely be able to swim.
Especially children will discover new things on board every day, like the many switches and levers at the helm, hoisting the sails or anchoring.
We kindly ask you to consider the risk of accidents and to take appropriate precautions, since parental supervision on board is your responsibility.
Yes, children up to 14 years are getting a reduction on the cruise price. These reductions are:
1 adult + 1 child in a double or twin cabin = 30%
2 adults + 2 children in two double or twin cabins = 30%
1 adult + 2 children in a triple cabin = 30%
2 adults + 1 child in a triple cabin = 50%
2 adults + 2 children in a quadruple cabin = 50%
Furthermore, when booking a triple cabin for 3 adults, the 3rd person gets a reduction of 20%.
These reductions will be calculated automatically during the booking process, and shown prior to entering your personal data.
These reductions are not valid for charter of ships.
It is impossible to exactly answer this question. Off season you should not count too much on children aboard. But during the school holidays, you certainly will meet children aboard, especially on boats with triple cabins.
No, you do not have to. Our boats are big enough so that you will always find a quiet place for yourself, e.g. to read a book.
On our “Island Hopping by Bicycle” and hiking cruises as well as on the “Active & Cappuccino” itineraries, a tour guide will accompany you during the entire cruise.
During the regular cruises, there are no guides aboard. Sightseeing tours and excursions as per itinerary, are guided by local guides. With chartering one of our boats, you have the possibility to book a guide for the duration of the cruise (subject to surcharge).
No, we are sailing at daylight only. During the night, the boats will moor in ports or coves.
For your convenience, towels are provided on all our vessels (2 towels per person upon arrival). You are kindly requested to bring your own beach towels.
Of course, at your arrival the beds are made up for you.
Of course, it is allowed. Many of our guests have already discovered that it is a unique experience to spend the night in the open air, under the starry skies of the Mediterranean.
There is of course plenty of room on deck, but please bring a sleeping bag and a foam pad or air mattress, as mattresses and bedding from the cabins are not allowed to be carried on deck.
No, it does not. The air conditioning is working only when the ship’s engine or the power engine is running, or when the ship is connected to the power supply ashore. When staying overnight in secluded coves or in fishermen’s villages without connection for power supply, the air conditioning is mainly switched off. In some harbours, the electrical supply may be too weak to distribute enough power to multiple ships with air conditioning.
Almost all ships have air conditioning in the lounge, the majority of the ships now have also air-conditioned cabins (with individual controls). Ships without air conditioning in the cabins are provided with an air conditioner in the aisle below deck. With air conditioning in the aisle, a cooling effect in the cabin is of course only possible if you leave the cabin door open.
It is very difficult to answer this question. Each of our itineraries has its own, unique charme. On this website, you will find 24 different routes, and we have done our best to make each single itinerary a unique and memorable cruising experience. If you are chartering one of our boats, you will be very flexible regarding the composition of your route, and for sure we have more than 100 ideas for you…
Of course, our boats are dropping anchor every day in the most beautiful coves, which are inviting for a swim.
The routes within Croatian territorial waters can be discussed individually. Just tell us your ideas and wishes, and together with the captain and our team on the spot, we will plan your personal itinerary, in advance.
Our charter rates are based on an average daily sailing time of five hours – 35 hours a week, but not more than seven hours per day. Of course, you can spend a whole day in a bay or port of call and extend the sailing time during the next days. Keep in mind while planning, that our boats are sailing exclusively at daylight.
Of course, cruises with longer sailing times are possible as well – please request a quotation.
Half board comprises breakfast and lunch or breakfast and dinner. The half board service starts with a snack on the day of arrival, as soon as embarkation is completed. Later on, dinner will be served. Furthermore, a captain’s dinner is held once per voyage.
On the other days, dinner can be enjoyed in restaurants ashore. Now and then the captain may offer you to dine on board (e.g., during overnight stays in sheltered bays); this service is subject to be paid separately on board (approx. € 25 to € 30 per meal and person, depending on the order and selection of dishes).
Meal service ends with breakfast on disembarkation day.
For breakfast, coffee and tea, bread, butter and jam are served. Partly, you will get cold cuts, cheese, eggs or yoghurt as well. The main dishes (lunch and/or dinner) consist of soups or starters, meat or fish with side dishes and salad, and dessert or fruit.
Although our tours are sea voyages, and you often will be served fish, there is mainly meat on the menu.
On our Island Hopping by Bicycle routes we have adapted the menu to meet the needs of cyclists. For breakfast, in addition to the usual coffee or tea, bread, butter and jam, also cold cuts, cheese, corn flakes, muesli, fruit, juices and dairy products like yoghurt will be served.
On our Hiking Cruises we will serve full board; lunch is served either on board or in lunch boxes during the hike.
On request vegetarian food is available on all ships – please inform us at the time of booking if you require vegetarian food. Vegetarian food does not mean that special menus are prepared; rather more side dishes (vegetables) will be served instead of meat.
The preparation of special diet food is possible by exception only. Please advise us prior to making your booking if you require special diet food.
No, it is not allowed to bring your own beverages aboard.
The prices of beverages are usually lower than in hotels, they can be compared with cafés and pubs. The average price is € 2.00 for 0.5 litre of mineral water, € 3.50 for soft drinks, € 3.50 for 0.3 litre of draught beer, and the price for a bottle of wine starts at € 25.
Our active routes, “Island Hopping by Bicycle”, “Hiking cruises” and “Active & Cappuccino”, are adapted to the physical fitness of people who use to do recreational cycling and hiking in their free time. To learn more about the levels of difficulty of our bicycle tours, please check the tour profiles. With the hiking tour, we quoted the hiking time as well as the altitude differences for ascents and descents.
Of course, you can book your cruise together, even if only one person participates in the bicycle tours. The “non-cycling” person may stay aboard during the bicycle tours. The cruise price will not change, however.
When renting one of our bicycles (included in the price of our Bike & Boat cruises), we will give you a helmet free of charge. Please advise with your booking if you require a helmet. Of course you may also bring your own. For safety reasons, we strongly recommend that all of our participants wear a bicycle helmet.
Of course, most of the crew members do not speak English perfectly, but communication will always be possible.
No, our cruises are not suitable for persons with reduced mobility due to the design of the ships. Although some ships seem suitable for people who do not need a wheelchair, it should be borne in mind that several ships usually have to be moored side by side in ports. Due to different deck heights of the individual ships, there is an increased risk of accidents during the transition from ship to ship. In addition, none of the ships is wheelchair accessible in terms of stairs, door widths and cabin sizes including bathrooms.
Upon embarkation, sojourn tax and groundage is due to be paid – € 42 per adult per week, € 21 per child (up to 12 years of age) per week. Furthermore, entrance fees to national parks and nature parks (according to the itinerary) are subject to be paid on the spot, as well as beverages and optional dinners aboard.
No, payments with credit cards are not possible aboard. Only cash payments in euros (EUR) are accepted.
Generally, you can exchange money at every port of call in banks, post offices or exchange offices. Furthermore, you can withdraw cash (euros) with credit cards from ATMs almost everywhere.
Breakfast from 8:00 until 9:00 am, afterwards we weigh anchor and set sail. Around noon we will moor in a cove and have the occasion for a swim. At 1:00 pm, the captain will strike the bell for lunch. After lunch, there is plenty of time left to enjoy another refreshing dip or to take a nap. In the afternoon, we will head for our today’s destination, which we will reach in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is at your disposal – take a walk through the place, have a drink in a café, or stop for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. Or follow the recommendation of your captain, if you like to have dinner aboard. Afterwards, you still have plenty of time for convivial gathering ashore or aboard…
Of course, this “typical day” is just an example. A lot depends on the exact itinerary of the route, respectively on your personal demands during the cruise.
