Omiš - Central Dalmatia

Omiš is a small Dalmatian town located at the mouth of the Cetina River, where it flows into the Adriatic Sea, between Split and Makarska, nestled between steep cliffs and the sea. On the landward side, the town is surrounded by the impressive hills of the Mosor and Omiška Dinara ranges, while to the south it opens towards the sea, giving Omiš a truly special atmosphere. The town's history is marked by its pirate past. In the Middle Ages, the pirates of Omiš ruled this part of the Adriatic and struck fear into passing merchant ships. The old town has preserved its narrow stone streets, small squares and ancient walls, and above it rises the Mirabela Fortress (also known as Peovica), offering a panoramic view of the Cetina estuary and the surrounding area.
