Central Dalmatia

Dive into the scenery of the most colourful part of the Dalmatian coast, a region in which the coast and the sea are closely connected. The mild climate is spiced by the essences of rosemary, pine, lavender and sage. This climate is ideal for the cultivation of wine grapes and several kinds of fruit. In this region there are also many hundred-year old olive trees, from which excellent olive oil is produced that is not only famous in Croatia but also abroad. The most important economical activities in the region are agriculture and tourism. The crystal clear water of the Adriatic Sea washes the wonderful coastline and the numerous islands. Central Dalmatia is the part of Croatia between Primosten in the north and the fertile valley of the river Neretva in the south. The capital of the region is Split, which originates from the time of the Roman emperor Diocletian, whose palace is still today the most important monument in town. In front of Split is located the island of Brac with its Vidova gora (the highest hill of the Adriatic islands) and the “Golden Horn”, probably the most beautiful beach in Croatia. The island of Hvar is also a must to visit, not only for its uncontaminated nature, but also for its rich cultural heritage. Between the small fishermen’s village Brela and the Neretva river there is the “Makarska Riviera”, considered by many people to be the most beautiful part of the Croatian coast with its wonderful pebble beaches. It is like a chain of beautiful places and islands. One of the most beautiful towns of the region is certainly Trogir, today also known as “Museum-town”, thanks to its medieval city centre, which is inscribed on the World Heritage List under the protection of UNESCO.
