Description:

The island of Hvar is one of the sunniest Croatian islands. Located in Central Dalmatia, between the islands of Brač and Korčula, Hvar has been attracting visitors for centuries with its mild Mediterranean climate, rich history, and diverse landscapes. The island’s main town, also named Hvar, is known for its historic city walls, cathedral, the Fortica fortress, and lively waterfront lined with cafés and restaurants. In the sumer months, the town comes to life in full, yet despite its popularity, it manages to keep its authentic charm. From the old town harbour, boats depart daily to the Pakleni Islands, a small archipelago ideal for swimming, diving, and peaceful anchorages. On the southern side of the island lies Jelsa, a quieter place that is increasingly recognised as a great base for exploring Hvar. Not far away are Vrboska, with its stone bridges and hidden coves, and Stari Grad – one of the oldest settlements in Croatia, with a history dating back to ancient Greek times. Stari Grad is particularly enchanting with its stone streets, peaceful atmosphere, and the fertile Stari Grad Plain, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island’s interior hides small villages such as Pitve, Vrisnik, and Sveta Nedjelja, where time seems to slow down and the scents of lavender and rosemary fill the air. Lavender once symbolised the island, and in July the landscape transforms into sweeping purple fields, especially around Zastražišće and Gdinj. Winemaking is also deeply rooted in local tradition, and some of Dalmatia’s most renowned wines come from the sun-drenched southern slopes of Hvar. Beaches on Hvar are as diverse as the island itself – from rocky terraces and secluded coves to pebble beaches backed by pine trees. The southern coast is particularly known for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear sea, while the northern side features gentler shores and a greater number of accessible bays. Whether you’re looking for a lively summer hub, cultural heritage, untouched nature, walks through olive groves and vineyards, or simply peace and views of the open sea – Hvar offers it all.
For your holiday in Croatia, on the island of Hvar, you’ll find a carefully selected range of accommodation, from hotels to private holiday apartments.
