MS Kapetan Kuka / Route RB

Port of Rijeka - Kvarner Region

Comfort Plus

Description

Named after the famous movie character “Captain Hook”, this marvelous steel-hull vessel is fortunately not commanded by pirates, but by Captain Pero Kalebić from the small island of Šolta. Captain Pero and his former boat “Zelenbor” used to be part of our fleet for many years. In summer of 2015, the Kalebić family decided to buy a new vessel and to celebrate their comeback. Before the 2016 cruise season started, the Kapetan Kuka went through an overhauling process including renovation of all cabins. Furthermore, a bathing platform with showers has been installed at the stern. By the way, Pero speaks good English, and German as well, because his wife Sylvia came aboard the Zelenbor as a German holidaymaker in 1981, and has been living with Pero on the island of Šolta for more than 40 years now.

General data: Length 36 m, built in 1989, renovated in 2016. 34 beds in 14 cabins with shower/toilet and individually controllable air conditioning.

Route

Route:
Rijeka – Island of Krk – Island of Rab – Island of Pag – Island of Lošinj – Island of Cres – Rijeka

If you arrive in Rijeka with your own car, you can drive into the harbour and directly to your ship from 09:00 am until 12:00 noon at the latest. Here you will unload your luggage, which will first be stored under our care until the cabins are ready for occupancy at 11:30 am. Our service team will then guide you to the garage and transfer you back to the port. Our bicycles are already waiting in front of the ship to be taken over by you. After you have selected a bike and possibly taken it for a test spin, our team will take care of loading it onto the ship. Afterwards, you will be greeted by our representative with a welcome drink and get to know the crew and fellow passengers. We weigh anchor and set sail for Njivice on the island of Krk. Here we start the first stage by bike – from Njivice we go to Porat and back to Njivice. Overnight stay in the port of Njivice. 22.0 kilometres by bike, ascent and descent 240 m each.

The port of embarkation for passengers depends on flight times. If flight and transfer are booked via I.D. Riva Tours and arrival at Rijeka airport by 11:30 am, embarkation in Rijeka is guaranteed; if arrival is later, embarkation in the first port of overnight stay.

After breakfast we cycle from Njivice via Čižići to Vrbnik, an old town perched high on a rock on the east coast of Krk. The famous golden-coloured wine "Žlahtina" comes from the vineyards around Vrbnik. Opportunity for lunch in a cosy konoba before we head towards the town of Krk. Dinner on board and overnight in the port of Krk. 43.6 bike kilometres, ascent and descent 570 m each.

The boat takes us to Lopar in the north of the island of Rab, which we reach after a short ride. We cycle via Supetarska Draga to Rab, where our ship awaits us for lunch against the unmistakable backdrop of the old town with its four bell towers. After lunch, we take a tour of the 1,400-hectare Kalifront forest park with its holm oaks that are up to 1,000 years old. After a break in the "Bay of Love" we return to Rab. Guided tour of the town followed by dinner in one of the restaurants. Overnight on board, 19.0 or 22.2 bike kilometres, ascent and descent 210 or 230 m each.

It only takes half an hour by boat to reach Lun on the northernmost tip of the neighbouring island of Pag. The island captivates above all by its contrasts – sometimes barren like a lunar landscape, sometimes lush green herb meadows, on which the countless sheep feed, which "produce" the famous Pag sheep's cheese. We first cycle to Novalja, the main town on the northern half of the island, where we take a break for a coffee, for example. We continue by bike to Mandre, where the ship is already waiting for us in the harbour. Lunch on board, afternoon at leisure, opportunity for dinner in Mandre and overnight. 33.8 bike kilometres, ascent and descent 350 m each.

Today we have a somewhat longer "sea voyage" ahead of us – the trip from Mandre to Mali Lošinj on the island of Lošinj takes about four hours. On the way, we anchor for lunch on board in a bay. Arriving in the harbour of Mali Lošinj, we unload the bikes again to get to know the uniquely lush nature with extensive pine forests. We cycle around Čikat Bay along the sea and through Sunčana Uvala (Sunny Bay) to the picturesque harbour town of Veli Lošinj and back. Opportunity for dinner in Mali Lošinj and overnight stay. 18.3 km by bike, ascent and descent 220 m each.

The "2-island day". After breakfast we start pedalling again and cycle from Mali Lošinj to Osor, where the islands of Lošinj and Cres are connected by a swing bridge. We continue via Belej and Vrana to Cres, the main town on the island. Lunch on board, after which you have the afternoon at leisure, e.g. to cycle to one of the beaches in the area. Overnight stay in the port of Cres. 54.9 bike kilometres, ascent and descent 710 m each.

The last cycle tour of our journey leads us from the harbour along the sea to the green lantern on the southern side of the entrance to the bay of Cres. Then we cycle through the town to the red lantern on the northern side of the entrance and along the sea back to the ship. Lunch on board in Cres, then we load the bikes for the last time. We leave the harbour of Cres and sail to a bay in the north of the island for another extensive swim in the blue Adriatic Sea before returning to Rijeka. Opportunity for dinner in Rijeka and overnight stay. 12.8 bike kilometres, ascent and descent 60 m each.

After breakfast, disembarkation until 9:00 am.

The itinerary is subject to change due to local conditions and current weather conditions. It may therefore happen that lunch is served on board instead of dinner or vice versa.

Partly, we follow the route in reverse order.

Location

Port of Rijeka - Kvarner Region

Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and the largest and most important seaport of the country. Rijeka is just a few hours by car from central Europe – public transportation (bus and train) depart from several countries on a daily base. The airport is located 30 kilometres outside Rijeka on the island of Krk. The city centre is close to the harbour and offers fantastic shopping opportunities, plus a number of cultural monuments and many places of interest. There is plenty of evening entertainment along the harbour road, the “Riva”.

Sojourn tax and harbour fees are not included in the prices and are payable in cash on board upon embarkation. These are € 49 per person and week, € 24 for children up to 12 years.

Tip recommendation: You will certainly be happy to reward the service crew’s performance with a tip. We recommend an amount from € 70 per cabin and week.
