Charter
Many have discovered it before us – and we can only agree – that chartering a ship and discovering Croatia’s world of islands is one of the loveliest things you can do. With a little bit of imagination, the ship can become your own private yacht.
Don’t be surprised if you come across big luxury yachts here, with people who can afford anything and everything and whose only problem is being spoilt for choice. Roman Abramovich, Yannick Noah, Caroline of Monaco, Bernie Ecclestone, Sheikh Abdullah Saleh and Bill Gates all have one thing in common – they all enjoy yachting holidays in Croatia’s world of islands.
And you will be even better looked after on one of our ships: your chef will whip up new Dalmatian dishes every day in his kitchen, with unrivalled proximity to nature, meaning that you will come to know and treasure your host.
We will work out your desired tour in collaboration with your captain, building in the greatest degree of flexibility. And don’t forget: Our “guest house on water” can be the starting point for many different activities.
On a charter cruise, you decide where the journey takes you… although we know that along 5,835 kilometres of coastline and 1,185 islands and islets − the choice is not always easy.
If you do not want to follow one of the featured routes in this brochure, just tell us your ideas – which places or islands you would like to visit, or if you want to spend the night in bays or harbours. Together with the captain and our team on the spot, we will plan your personal itinerary in advance. Obviously we need to consider the daily sailing time, the characteristics of each vessel and maritime assessment.
Our charter rates are based on an average daily sailing time of five hours − 35 hours a week. Of course, you can spend a whole day in a bay or port of call and extend the sailing time during the next days. Keep in mind while planning, that our boats are sailing exclusively at daylight.
Of course, cruises with longer sailing times are possible as well. Please request a quotation.
“Good food is a blessing for body and soul!” − This old saying definitely applies to our cruises. The served meals are made out of fresh and high quality ingredients. The menus traditionally include soup or appetizers, meat dishes or fish, fresh vegetables, salad and dessert. For any special requests, simply inform the captain in time and your culinary desires will be fulfilled. If you feel like eating freshly caught shrimps or if you fancy to grill a lamb over an open fire in a secluded bay − be assured that your captain will make it possible. These extra meals are subject to be paid directly on board.
The shore excursions in the evenings always offer great opportunities to discover culinary treasures. Enjoy the taste of grilled fish in typical local taverns, called “Konobas”, or “slow food” in the ambiance of exclusive restaurants.
If you have never heard of a “wine road on the sea”, then the time has come to sail along this path! The cruise will take you from winery to winery, where you can taste some fine wines of the region. A perfect example is the Peljesac peninsula, where famous red wines − like Dingac and Postup − are grown and made.
You will enjoy plenty of culinary highlights also on our regular cruises. Most boats offer half board (breakfast and lunch), so dinner can be organised very flexibly. Before you decide to dine ashore, we recommend talking to the captain first. He can surely offer you a fantastic and affordable dinner on board. If you would like to taste a special dish, he will be happy to arrange it.
Would you like to experience more than sun, wind, waves and sea? There are numerous possibilities to enhance your charter cruise.
How about guided tours to cultural and historical monuments? The UNESCO towns of Split, Trogir and Dubrovnik offer fantastic points of interest, just like Krk, Rab, Zadar, Sibenik, Hvar, Korcula… each location offers a wide choice of tourist attractions. You decide whether a tour guide will be waiting for you in each port of call, or whether he or she should accompany you throughout the entire cruise.
It will be our pleasure to organize bus tours for your group. The excursion through the Neretva River Delta to Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina is a great example. Another amazing trip leads to the world-famous pilgrimage site of Medjugorje.
On our itineraries, you will get to see a number of famous national parks. The steep gorges of Paklenica, the magnificent Krka waterfalls, the Kornati Islands − unique in the world − or the saltwater lakes on the island of Mljet.
Just tell us what you would like to see and we will gladly submit you a tailor-made offer.
Did you know that I.D. Riva Tours actually was the first tour operator ever, who started offering bike & boat arrangements in Croatia, a.k.a. “Island Hopping by bicycle”? By now, we combine our cruises with guided bicycle tours to beautiful islands on eight different itineraries.
Island Hopping is also possible if you decide to charter an entire vessel for your group. In this case, you may choose one of the routes from this catalogue, or you can feel free to create your own programme.
We are the right address for organising large events, too − in May 2000, we arranged the “Bicycle Spring” on the Kvarner Bay islands for a German radio station with 21 ships and 505 participants! And annually, we are organising similar events with hundreds of participants, e.g. in cooperation with newspapers.
“Island Hopping by bicycle” is of course not the only way to enjoy an active charter cruise. If you want to discover the islands on foot, our experienced guides will lead you along the best tracks and show you some magical places. The islands of the Adriatic Sea are as well a great location for a new fantastic trend sport − Nordic walking.
If you fancy even more action, canoe safaris and rafting tours are definitely the right activity for you. The rivers Zrmanja near Zadar and Cetina near Omis are very popular canoeing and rafting locations.
Or think about a “mixture” of cycling, hiking, Nordic walking, canoeing, rafting… we would be pleased to compose the right combination for you, adapted to the wishes and needs of your group, either active or recreative…
The Adriatic Sea is actually a peaceful ocean. If, by any chance, some strange looking pirates should be crossing your route, you can be sure that they do not have bad intentions. In this case, you will be facing a cheerful group, who has chartered a vessel for a few days to have some fun.
Our ships are ideal for clubs and groups, who are planning their next holiday. Soccer or bowling clubs, sports clubs, large families or simply a group of good friends – with our boats for 13 to 40 people, you will surely find the right vessel to suit your needs and wishes. Of course you can also charter two or more vessels, in case your group turns out to be larger.
A few years ago, a brass orchestra chartered one of our boats and they gave a concert in every harbour they visited. Imagine the surprised looks of the accidental audience ashore, when suddenly trumpets, horns and trombones where being played on deck. Something similar happened, when members of a country music club unpacked their fiddles and banjos every night and started doing square dance on the Dalmatian “rivas”. The Croatians are a Mediterranean folk and thus, always in the mood to party. Quite often some spontaneous harbour parties came to life in just a few minutes!
Many guests celebrated their birthday or anniversary, cruising together with family and friends. The event we were most excited about, finally took place in July 2013. A couple from Austria got married on the M/S Dalmatino. After the wedding ceremony and a royal outdoor dinner at a beautiful park in Zadar, the newly-weds and 20 invited guests set off for a one-week cruise through the northern part of Dalmatia.
Our sailing boats are also an ideal setting for seminars and workshops. Since 2005, the ITHAS (International Tourism and Hospitality Academy at Sea) takes place almost every year on five or six motorized sailing boats.
This event is organized by the University of Zagreb, in cooperation with the universities of Munich (Germany), Jyvaskylä (Finland), Barcelona (Spain), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Brock (Ontario, Canada). Every year, more than 100 students and 20 academics join the Academy to learn about tourism in real life situation. During this unique combination of cruise and training, future tourism professionals will critically monitor all actors, who are involved in providing tourist services.
The degree programmes are being taught − during the voyage − by professionals who are recognized around the world. They give lectures and lead discussions with the students. Additionally, meetings with local tourism managers are arranged in the places where the boats anchor.
The Academy focuses on a different topic every year. In recent years, the topics have been “Island Tourism Management”, “Tourism Management in National Parks”, “Destination Management”, “Small Scale Tourism Development”, “Physical Planning in Tourism”, “Creation of Tourism Product”, and “Special Interest Tourism”.
You too can hold seminars or team building measures on our ships, just let us know your wishes!
How it started in the 1960s: with simply reconstructed freight sailing ships, “sleeping compartments”, separated by curtains, one toilet, and an open shower on deck. The passengers were mostly young people − students on high school graduation trips, friends on tour, skittles clubs… At that time, overnight stays took place mostly in sheltered bays, without electricity and water supply − true to the motto “hand in hand with the nature”. And the captains knew, of course, not only where the most beautiful coves are located, but also where the best dance terraces can be found…
Times have changed. The former freight sailing ships have been modernized over time, again and again. Proper cabins have long since replaced the sleeping compartments, and the showers are not anymore open on deck. And at the helm are standing the sons and grandsons of the former pioneers.
Although a large part of today’s guests are invidual travellers and families, week by week, we are welcoming groups on board who have chartered an entire ship for themselves. And still, students are making their school’s out tours, or cliques of friends are partying, a whole week long. Of course, they don’t ask anymore for the best dance terraces, but they are looking for the hottest discos and clubs. Such as “Santos” in Barbat on the island of Rab, or the Zrce bay on the island of Pag. The beach of Zrce is often called the “Ibiza of Croatia” − in six clubs and 24 hours a day, international DJs are the guarantee for the craziest atmosphere…
Back to the old “Seeadler* tradition” − this applies especially to our smaller boats: MS Zelenbor and MS Poseidon ex Rijeka, MS Dalmatino ex Zadar, and MS Pravedan and MS Orkan ex Trogir. With a capacity of 13 up to 26 passengers, they are ideal for smaller groups, and in the summer, you can still enjoy to sleep under the stars on deck.
Times are changing, but one thing remains always the same − having a good time with friends, socializing, entertainment and a unique nature. This is genuine “Seeadler* tradition”…
*“Seeadler” (sea eagle) was the company which in the 1960s invented these unique cruises. I.D. Riva Tours is the official successor and owner of the brand and the logo.
By the way: Even if you do not have enough time to charter a boat for a full week, feel free to ask us. We will gladly submit an offer for shorter charter trips.

When chartering a boat, half board service is obligatory for all passengers. If you opt for full board, this will be binding for all tour participants; the combination of half and full board within a charter group is not possible. However, it is possible for the entire charter group to book half board on specific days and full board for the remaining days (e.g. 3 days half board and 4 days full board).
Please inform us at least four weeks prior to your travel date about your preferences. The selected catering is to be paid equal to the respective minimum number of charter participants, set for the surcharge calculation (please see charter prices in the price list). Charter groups can choose between half or full board, regardless of whether the ship on regular cruises offers half or full board.
Additional meals or special requests, which may add extra costs, are payable on board.
The list of participants must be delivered at least six weeks prior to the travel date.
The routes within Croatian territorial waters can be discussed individually; the average daily sailing time is about five hours (= 35 hours per week), but not more than seven hours per day. When exceeding the average daily sailing time, a fuel surcharge applies, payable to the captain. You should therefore inform us in time, if possible already at the moment of booking, about your route requests and wishes, so we can estimate the daily sailing time and calculate a possible fuel surcharge.
Examples of fuel surcharges:
- Routes T1, T5, TV = € 40
- Routes T3, TD = € 80
- Route T4 = € 140
The fuel surcharge is to be paid per person, according to the minimum number of charter participants.
Entrance fees to national and nature parks are not included in the charter price and need to be paid on-site. For example, per person:
- Kornati Islands National Park = € 10
- Telašćica Nature Park = € 10
- Island of Mljet National Park (depending on the season) = € 15 – € 25
- Krka Waterfalls National Park (depending on the season) = € 20 – € 40
- Island of Lastovo Nature Park = approx. € 4
We will gladly organize additional excursions to enhance your cruise experience. For example, the Kayak Safari on the Zrmanja river (see description of route RC for details), rafting on the Cetina river (see descriptions of routes TV and TC for details), or a full-day bus tour across Montenegro (see description of route T4 for details) and through the Neretva river delta to Mostar (see route T5).
- Zrmanja Kayak Safari = € 69 per person
- Cetina River Rafting = € 69 per person
- Neretva River Delta & Mostar = € 79 per person
- Montenegro Tour ex Kotor = € 70 per person
- Montenegro Tour ex Dubrovnik = € 95 per person
- Guided city tour = € 140 per group
Generally, you may charter a boat also for “Island Hopping by Bicycle”. However, this service must be requested at the time of booking, since not all vessels are suitable for this type of cruise. Additional costs per week:
-
Compulsory handling surcharge (bike transport, special route): € 25 per person per bicycle resp. € 45 per person per e-bike; at least equal to the respective minimum number of charter participants, set for the surcharge calculation (please see charter price tables).
-
Riva Bike Guide: 1st guide: € 1,400 per week, 2nd guide: € 1,000 per week; prices include meals for the guides. We recommend two guides per group. Please note that one cabin on board will be reserved for the bike guides (the charter price will not be reduced).
-
Bicycle rental (helmet on request) including bicycle insurance and delivery to the port (available only in connection with the Riva Bike Guide): € 90 per bicycle.
- eBike (electrical bicycle; helmet on request) including bicycle insurance and delivery to the port (available only in connection with the Riva Bike Guide): € 220 per eBike.
Of course you may also charter a boat for Hiking Cruises. Additional costs per week:
- Riva Hiking Guide: 1st guide: € 1,400 per week, 2nd guide: € 1,000 per week; prices include meals for the guides. Please note that one cabin on board will be reserved for the hiking guides (the charter price will not be reduced).
Generally, embarkation and disembarkation take place at the same port. However, there is the possibility to choose different ports for embarkation and disembarkation (for example, Rijeka and Zadar), if you charter the boat for two or more groups in a row. For example, two times seven days, or two short cruises of three and four days.
If you do not have a full week’s time, but still would like to charter a boat, feel free to contact us. We will gladly submit an offer for shorter charter trips.
Please send us your non-binding request via the request form or by e-mail to cruise@idriva.com
