The legend tells that Umag was named after the Celtic word “mag”, which stands for fertile land. This land and sea has truly always been blessed with everything that nature offers. In olden times Umag used to be the summer residence for the Roman nobles. Some of the ancient glamorous villas in the old town of Umag can still today be admired.
